| Antique Clown Cast Iron Mechanical Bank |
This is an antique clown mechanical bank. Years ago they really had the right
idea. A penny saved is a penny earned. The coin is placed in the clown's hand,
a lever is pushed, the clown's hand is raised to his mouth, the coin slides
into his mouth and his eyes look upward. He is cleverly made and very entertaining.
On the bottom of the bank it has stamped into the ironwork: Buffalo, N.Y.-U.S.A.,
Patd. in Canada MCH27'83, Rd in England No. (looks like 8) 829. He has a greedy
and almost sinister look about him like a barker at a carnival's side-show;
he likes taking your money. He probably was repainted 20 or 30 years ago which
is likely part of the reason he is so sinister looking. At the top rear of
his hat there is a screw missing. His hat is dark red, his face flesh-toned
with three pink dots, his outfit's collar and buttoned lapel are yellow. He
has one green arm and one red arm. The front of his shirt is red on one side
and aqua on the other. He has chipping paint, more so around the teeth and
hand. Part of the bottom plate has two iron mesh areas (3/4" x 2"). On one
corner a piece is missing (approx. 1/2" x 1&1/2"). The coin lever is on the
right side behind his shoulder. He measures 7&5/8" H x 6" W x 5&1/2" deep
(including hand). What a delightful coin bank to add to your collection, despite
the error of the previous owner to repaint, this is a genuine original and
is quite rare.
