You are looking at an original old wall-mounted telephone with the crank and bells that ring-up the operator. Everything is original. The set must have been set up for outgoing calls to be placed through the operator because the phone has no dial. The phone unit could sit on the wooden box that houses the main components, or the phone could be moved to a more comfortable location. That way the moveable unit could be set on a table, shelf or back on top of the component box. The phone can be made portable by moving the unit with use of the 5'3" cloth-coated original wire. The same type wire is used to the unit to the ear and mouthpiece and that measures 4 feet. The phone is heavy; the wooden box is probably solid oak and the components inside are substantial in weight (around 25 lbs). The box is painted black to match the black bake-lite phone. The receiver has stamped inside the its handle: Bell System Manufactured by Western Electric Company F1. On the bottom back of the base of the telephone (not the box) is marked: Western Electric Made In U.S.A. 1503424 Pat. Pend. On the top back of the phone base is stamped D1. The phone unit measures 5&1/2" H x 8&3/4" W x 5" deep. The box measures 11" H x 8" W x 6" deep. Wouldn't this telephone unit be a honey for an appreciative person to add to his or her collection? |
