The item you are looking at is a silver chalice with a gold interior lining made by Louis D Hupfeld. Hupfeld was the only silver/goldsmith in Baltimore during his career. He did a variety of work but focused on religious artifacts specificaly Ceremonial Chalices for service. This chalice is a one of a kind hand crafted item made by Louis and unfortunatley he passed away several years ago so there will not be anything like it ever again. There is no mark on the chalice but I know that it came out of the estate of Mr.Hupfeld. Mr. Hupfeld worked out of a rough area in baltimore that was not the best place at night so he did not stamp the metal mark until after the item was sold, so we can't be 100% on what the material is. What we do know is that his chalices were made for service so there has to be at least a plate of silver or some precious metal on it and in this case I am confident that it is 23k gold as another chalice that was marked 23k gold looked the same. I am also confident that the middle part is onyx as it was a common element in Hupfelds work. The outer part looks like silver but I am not as sure about that. Another fact to consider is that it has been sitting for three years and still looks as shiny and polished as the day it was purchased from Hupfelds estate. The chalice is in mint condition with a few spots of wear. The chalice measures 7.5 inches tall and 4.25 inches wide at the top and 5.5 inches at the bottom. I would like to repeat that all info provided is relative, there is no official mark or documents that certify the material of this chalice, the only thing we have is the 60+ year history behind Hupfeld's work.
