Antique German Feuerhand (Nr.280) Oil Lamp

You are looking at an oil lamp, made in Germany, by Freuerhand. On both sides at the top it says "Nier and Freuerhand, Firehand, Reg. U.S. Pat. Office." This oil lamp/lantern reminds me of the men who worked on the railroads using lanterns to signal each other. There are emblems, two on the two fill-caps that are part of the reservoir in the base and two stamped on the top sides. They show an extended helping hand with a flame and in the other emblem are people in the helping hand. Again, the top lid has the company name stamped twice. The oil lamp measures 18&1/4" H (with the handle) x 8" W (the widest part). The base measures 8" in diameter. The metal holders for the glass insert are part of the lantern but the glass has long been gone from the item. If you have an interest in that "Old General Store" look for your home, collection, bar, restaurant or business then this is the oil lamp for you!
